BMW M Initiation

M4 DriftingBMW seems really into advertising the drifting capabilities of their brand new models lately and we love it!! After the video of the M4 drifting on a Aircraft carrier, (which was completely edited), and the video of a couple of M235i drifting around a roundabout (actual footage) the M family is back and with all its ancestors this time. This M4 initiation brought together 52 privately owned M models ranging from classics to recent ones, all here to welcome the new born. I would really be curious to see the reaction of the private owners as the M4 drifts a few centimeters away from their cars! I have to point out that with these new commercials BMW is doing a really good job bringing awareness about their new models with every commercial getting no less than millions of views. They are also stressing on the potential of their new models and what they can accomplish in terms of maneuverability and feel.

M4 interiorRegarding the M4 I have already written a full review on it back when it was still a concept. (which you can access by clicking here). I would like to add to it the fact that I have had a ride in a M4 lately. To start with, I find this car gorgeous. The design lines and aerodynamic details look really good and yet are not too extreme making this car classy to drive to work and sexy to drive on the track. The interior has been refined with some red and blue stitches and other carbon fiber finishes. The central infotainment system is clear and useful with a properly sized screen. Regarding the ride, the car feels super comfortable on our bumpy roads even though sitting on those massive 19 inch rims. The exhaust sound ain’t as bad as people are saying it is but I do understand that the E92 V8 must sound better and less “digital”. What particularly astonished me was how fast the gear shifts of that dual clutch 7 speed automatic gearbox are specially in sport settings! I have tried the new generation PDK and 7 speed dual clutch of Ferrari and believe me it can easily compete. About that turbo-charged engine, with its turbo for each 3 cylinders, with one that starts spooling at low rpms and another one at higher rpms, turbo lag has practically disappeared! I guess this is the new trend that most of the manufactures will be fitting in their upcoming models. Let’s see what the competitors will be announcing at the Paris motor-show in a couple of weeks!

The Epic Driftmob | BMW M235i

M235i Drift mobYou adrenaline junkies are gonna love this! Five cherry red M235i coupes performing a choreographed high-speed drifting sequence on a closed traffic rotary in Capetown! What more to ask! First question that comes to mind: “Is that a fake, montage, Hollywood style type of commercial?” The answer is no, that roundabout was actually closed for a period of almost 3 days in order for the director and crew to capture the shots. In the cars are actual precision, professional drifting champions like Rhys Millen and Samuel Hübinette. The cars available were only these five M235i. There were no replacement cars “just in case” so the drivers had to be very careful. Oh and almost 33,000$ worth of tires was spend in the making. The commercial is just brilliant, perfectly targeting a typical M235i buyer that would be looking for a classy, sporty, German and fun coupe. You can check the behind the scenes video taken by Drive by clicking right here.

BMW-M235i_Coupe_2014_interiorNow, about the M235i. It is the new born of BMW hiding under the hood a turbocharged N55 inline-six, making 320 hp and 330 lb-ft of torque burning the 0-100km/h in just 4.8 sec. A quick-shifting eight-speed automatic (not dual-clutch) with wheel-mounted paddles and a launch-control program is standard. Being a beamer, the power is sent directly to the back wheels. With that, the car manages a 52:48 weight distribution. The interior is regular, typical BMW with a nice big display screen in the middle. The steering wheel has been beautifully designed. So glad that the hand brake is still here and hasn’t been replaced by those hideous parking buttons that are invading most modern cars. All in all, that M235i must really be a joy to drive and drift. I loved the inside and outside design even though I have some problems with the back and those two small exhaust tips. If you are looking forward to getting one, go crazy go for a red or a blue! It is a fun car after all!

BMW Concept M4 Coupe

BMW Conce M4 coupe frontA few days ago BMW revealed its new breed, the 4 series, followed of course with its M version, the M4, which is said to be the replacement of the M3 coupe. BMW has still not revealed any official data regarding the power output of their new born but rumours say that the legendary 4.0 liters V8 will be replaced with a more efficient Twin Turbo charged 3.0-liters inline-six delivering up to 455hp. Some say that the M4 might incorporate an engine equipped with 3 turbos. The body of the car is recovered with a mix of plastic and carbonfiber, forming a rigid and light shell. Apparently the F82 M4 will be sold with a dual-clutch transmission (DCT) as standard equipment. No manual option will be available.

BMW Conce M4 coupe BackSince no official data has been given by BMW, I am going to give you guys my own predictions. You are free to share yours in the comment space here below 🙂 Regarding the engine, I would say that the M4 will be equipped with an inline 6 with 3 turbos. Most of the times, when a car manufacturer moves from a naturally aspirated to a turbocharged engine, he is most likely to collect negative and bad feedback from the fans. Going for 3 small turbos, with one for each two cylinder, will make the driving sensation closer to a naturally aspirated engine. Regarding the transmission, to compete in this very techy and competitive car market we are in, a DCT is a must, manual can’t be an option anymore eventhough it sure will be missed. The DCT not only provides quicker acceleration but will also improve fuel economy.

BMW Conce M4 coupe front BumperI personally find that the M3 with all the history it carries, should have stayed the M3 in its coupe version and the M4 should have been the 4 doors version of it (since it is called M4). For a new Series, I would have expecting a more unusual design. Even though, I liked the exterior, the front gives it an angry attitude while the back is ready to through out some flames. BMW tried to give the M4 a fresh new look with this “Aurum Dust” colour, not really sure people liked it.

Red Bull Commercial: The Athlete Machine

red bull driftRedbull gathered 11 of its top athletes to create this amazing 6:00 minutes video. A pure pleasure! In this small video Redbull is showing us the range and the variety of sports that it sponsors. The idea of linking all these different disciplines together is brilliant. Enough said, enjoy the show!!

MINI Commercial: Guinness World Record

Parallel ParkingAfter the Italian Job, Mini is introducing a Special Edition of the new MINI Coupe: The Chinese Job edition. VW was the last sponsor of the tightest parallel parking competition that was won by the German Ronny Wechselberger who parked a VW Polo in a space measuring 26cm longer than that of his car. It is now the fifth time in the past two years, that the Guinness World Record title for the tightest parallel parking job is beaten. It is now in the hands of Han Yue, a Chinese driver who park drifted a MINI Cooper S in a space bigger by 15 cm than that of his car. Check out this IMPRESSIVE video!!

BMW Commercial: The Zagato Coupe

This amazing hand-built beast is the result of BMW getting together with Milanese coachbuilder Zagato. I must say this car has a very aggressive front side that was designed specially around the engine so that it fits perfectly. The front grill is covered with “Z”. The rear part of the car doesn’t seem like it is following the same aggressive spirit as the front. It a bit too futuristic. I would have preferred a more “Z4 look a like” look for the back. Nothing was announced by BMW regarding the engine specifications but I would predict that the BMW Zagato will feature the V8 twin-turbo 4.4-liter of the 2012 M6. It will probably be tuned to release around 600hp. There is a big probability that this concept will go into production in the recent future.

BMW Commercial: IT!! The game.

Video

The new 2013 BMW M135i concept was one of the innovations that BMW introduced atthe Geneva 2012 motor-show. The M is an upgraded version of the one series that is gonna feature a twin turbocharged 6 cylinders in-line engine that is gonna deliver around 300 hp. The M135i is a rear-wheel hatchback that I think will be really fun to drive.

I am a very big fan of hot hatches and i find that having so much power in such a small RWD car is just amazing. Regarding the exterior look, I find the old version of the M135 much more aggressive and serious specially regarding the rear part. The old M135 featured four exhaust pipes at the back that were just gorgeous.
This ad focuses on the “Fun” part of the car as the two professional drivers are playing “IT, the game”. They make the stunts look so smooth and easy to do.

Mini Commercial: “INSANE ATTEMPT AT HUMAN FLIGHT”

Video

This is one of the craziest car ads I have ever seen. Like Seriously?! A man wearing a wing-suit, wired to a Countryman and getting ejected from a cliff?! The 2013 MINI John Cooper Works Countryman is an amazing combination of power and handling. The 1.6 turbo engine delivers 211 hp and 207 lb-ft of torque. Combined with the All4 all-wheel drive system, the Contryman ends up to be the first and fastest MINI JCW with a four wheel drive system.
