Trip to Douma | RenaultSport Club Lebanon

RSCLUB13114-18 REOn the 12th of January, TheAdsGarage was invited to attend a roadtrip to Douma with the RenaultSport Club Lebanon. Around 20 Renault ranging from Clio RS to Megane RS passing through some special edition ones like a RedBull RB7 Megane and 2 Clio Gordini edition met up at around 8:30 am on the Jounieh highway. Organisation was epic there was a car at the beginning of the convoy and one at the end making sure no one gets lost and everyone reaches destination. Once we reached the Tannourine highway, the guys went on a hot run, unleashing all of those 265 hp included in their Megane RS and other 200hp packed in the Clio RS. You would never believe how stable that Megane is unless you ride shotgun with one of those guys. We then stopped by a small bakery to have breakfast. After a small photoshoot of those hot hatches (that you can check by clicking right here), the “President” of the Club Mr.Elias Ghanem took us on very nice rally stage in the region. The road is one of those typical, very challenging, narrow and technical mountain roads. You can easily end up down the valley in a wrecked Megane or Clio if you miss a turn. The video here below is recorded on one of these roads. Special thanks to Stefano Zakher for the video editing 🙂

RSCLUB13114-29 RE

The Megane RB7 I was in sounded like an angry dragon sucking in cold air and converting it into fire. The driving sensations you get in those french hatches are very impressive, augmented by the fact that they are available only in manual. Compared to the old one that looked like a steam iron, the new Megane looks good specially with that centered massive exhaust at the back. The only problem I have with french cars is that I think that they don’t age well, they are not “robust” enough. After only a couple of months of driving, you start hearing some weird squeaking here and there in the car. Thing that you would never get in a German car for example. Would that stop me from buying a Megane RS? After the experience I had during this roadtrip, F*ck no! Thank you very much for the invite guys. It was a real pleasure!

Volkswagen Design Vision GTI Concept

VW Design Vision GTI Concept 2013 FrontHasn’t it always been your dream to leave a 911 Porsche in the dust while riding the hottest and one of the first hatches ever created, the Golf GTI? Introducing the Design Vision GTI Concept, the 503hp and 413 lb-ft of torque Golf GTI, the supercar killer. The three-door monster was developed to wow the crowds of the Wörthersee tuning festival in Austria last spring and has now been revealed at the 2013 LA MotorShow. With this one of a kind edition, Volkswagen is giving us a spectacular glance into the future of the GTI and showing us the flexibility and performance potential of the “MQB” chassis it shares with the stock MK7. All of these ponies were able to fit into the hatch by adding 2 cylinders and a turbo. In fact the Design Vision incorporates a twin-turbocharged VR6 TSI engine combined with a DSG dual-clutch gearbox driving all four wheels. In other words the ingredients for a bonkers version of the all mighty GTI that burns the 0-100km/h in just 3.9 sec.

VW Design Vision GTI Concept 2013 BackAnd isn’t it just a beauty sitting on those 20 inch wheels?! Ok the plastic body might be a bit too wide and the interior too rough, but hey it is still a concept and it needs to incorporate and be able to handle those 500 horses. I really hope that VW is able to produce a more subtle, but as crazy version, of this Design Vision concept. Watch the video attached to take a glance at the burps and other amazing sounds emitted by that amazing engine.

The Jaguar F-Type R

Ftype CoupeThe long awaited hard top version of the already wonderful F-Type roadster has been finally revealed and it looks stunning. The Coupe is the latest member of Jaguar’s R performance line, that includes the XFR-S and XKR-S. It features the same 5.0-liter, 550-hp and 680Nm of torque supercharged V8. This beauty will burn the 0-100km/h in just 4.0 seconds. The new breed is equipped with hidden rear wing that rises at speeds above 100km/h and stiffer adaptive dynamics suspension that manages the car’s body movements and adjust accordingly. It also has an electronic active differential and a torque vectoring system that further aid the F-Type R’s handling abilities, by controlling the amount of torque sent to each wheel while allowing the inner wheels to brake independently to reduce under-steer.

This F-type R is one, if not the best, looking supercar that has been released this year. It is the perfect balance of  pure elegance, power and eye popping beauty. The roar that comes out of those 4 tail pipes is just plain earporn! Amazing package that thing, great job Jaguar!

World’s Greatest Drag Race 3

Worlds Greatest Drag Race 3The 3rd edition of Motortrends World’s greatest drag race is finally up! The first question that comes to mind is why is a Ford Focus ST among the participants. I think it is used for people like you and I, who probably own a 170/250 hp car, to be able to compare and acknowledge the power of the other mad, steroids freaks, competitors that are on the start line. The mighty Godzilla is back again with a track edition package this time. In case you have questions regarding why those were the chosen contestants Click here to find your answer. Enjoy the show! And if you have any comment regarding the outcome of the race, feel free to share it in the comment box below.

NB: If you missed the first 2 editions of the World’s Greatest Drag Race feel free to access them on TheAdsGarage Best Drivers Car Category 🙂

Ferrari 458 Speciale

Ferrari-458_Speciale_2014

Ferrari-458_Speciale_2014 backFaster, lighter, sexier, the perfect ingredients to create a “scuderia” version of the 458 Italia, so called, the 458 Speciale. So what’s the fuzz all about you shall ask. To start with, the naturally aspirated 4.5 liters V8 has been given some steroids contributing to a total gain of 30 ponies. This adds up to a total of 592hp and 398 lb-ft of torque making it the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 Ferrari has ever built. The weight of the 458 has been reduced by 90kg. The attention to detail in the design of the interior is just staggering. Last but not least, its look. The front grille has been enhanced, the bonnet is more structured to improve aerodynamics, the rear has been equipped with a bigger diffuser and two integrated tailpipes replacing the 458’s trademark central triple pipes. The aero elements are active and help make this Ferrari’s most aerodynamic road car yet. Ferrari claims some of the 458 Speciale’s technology will make it onto its future road cars, with SSC and that active aero seeming dead certs. I love every single bit of this new creation by Ferrari. It will be officially announced at the Frankfurt motor show in September. Hope I’ll be able to make it!! [updated] The official video has just been released! Just look at those active aerodynamic components!

Official Camaro Club Lebanon Launching event

1967 Z28After missing out on around 6 various events due to my neck injuries, I’M BACK and on a very special occasion, the collaboration between the Camaro 5 Club Lebanon and the exclusive dealer for Chevrolet, Cadillac, Hummer and the Isuzu in Lebanon, IMPEX. The Camaro 5 Club started as a fan club managed by a bunch of Camaro owners who use to cruise around Lebanon searching for other fellows Camaro to add to the group. The number of fans kept growing and, on the 1st of August, they were able to regroup, with the help of IMPEX, around 50 Camaro ranging from the 1967 Z28 to the 2013 ZL1. Press right here to access the photos of the event. A video of the Black Camaro SS with green brake calipers and equipped with Magnaflow Competition Series Exhaust is attached here below. It happens to spit fire from times to times if you ever feel like watching 😉

Billy Karam's MuseumThe gathering point was at La Marina Dbayeh. The convoy then moved to Nabil “Billy” Karam’s Museum in Zouk where we were taken on a tour bi Billy himself around his crazy collection of 27,777 miniature cars that granted him the Guinness World Record of the “Largest Collection of Diorama” on the 16th of November 2011. After that, IMPEX invited us to a conference dinner at ATCL (Automotive Touring Club Lebanon).

Camaro GatheringThe event was planned and very well organised by the owners of the Camaro Club Lebanon themselves. They did a great job, getting the appropriate licenses and permits from the different municipalities, making sure the event runs smoothly and as planned. Even tough the gathering time and day (4pm on a Thursday) of the event were a bit odd, I really enjoyed visiting Billy’s Museum and the food at ATCL was delicious!! IMPEX did a very smart move by collaborating with the Camaro 5 club. It is a very good way of showing that they care about their fans and want to promote the Camaro spirit. These events give a good image and good exposure to the company offline (during the event) and online (after the event). It take some time and effort to organise them, but they do pay off. Rare are the car dealers in Lebanon that take action and “invest” in their fan clubs, which is really a shame. I am expecting a proper roadtrip and some adrenaline rushes for the next event, I am curious to experience what those Camaro have in their guts. Looking forward!

Honda: Hands

Honda handsFor its 65th anniversary, Honda released this fabulous commercial showcasing all there achievement from the 24th of September 1948 till today. A bolt reaching the hands of that Honda engineer (I guess) is transformed from motorcycles to cars, to people movers, supercars, boats and even four-wheel farm bikes and jets. It is a very clever way of showing, in a 1:56 minutes video, all the industries that those Honda engineers were able to tackle so far. The ad is done by Wieden + Kennedy London the company responsible for the 2003 Honda “Cog” commercial that has been named the best car commercials of all time by AutoExpress. This all-new spot called Hands is even more entertaining and might aswell dethrone the old one. The two commercials are linked below. Enjoy!

Megane RS Red Bull RB8 Edition

Megane RS Red Bull Racing RB8Following the success of the Red Bull formula one racing team, for the third year in a row Renault released a Mégane R.S. Red Bull Racing RB8, a special edition version of the Mégane RS production car. This special edition hatchback features the same Crépuscule Blue color used by the Red Bull F1 team, 19 inch black alloy wheels and high-performance Bridgestone tyres, the same tires that were used by the Mégane Trophy to establish a new lap record for the Nürburgring. Other that that there are some red bull badges here and there in addition to an in-dash, connected R-Link multimedia tablet that has six functions (navigation, telephony, multimedia, vehicle, systems and R-Link Store applications catalogue).

Megane RS Red Bull RB8 FrontMechanically speaking, the RB8 has the same specs as the Mégane RS trophy edition featuring a Cup chassis, limited slip differential, 265-hp and 360Nm of torque squeezed out of a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. The Renault Mégane R.S. Red Bull Racing RB8 will be available in 26 countries until September 30, 2013. Prices in Lebanon start at around $50,000. Being a hatchback fan I loved it even though I don’t think I would really pay around 4000$ over a RS Trophy just to get Red Bull badges here and there. As the Mégane is issued from a French factory, I am glad that it is available in manual only, French cars tend to have crappy automatic gearboxes. Its design is not bad at all. The single middle exhaust at the back is damn sexy. The combination of a cup chassis and LSD is just brilliant. It even comes with a yellow seat-belt!! All in all, the Mégane RS Trophy has all the ingredients of a perfect and fun hatchback. Looking forward to test drive one of those Frenchies soon 🙂

Mad Mike drifting Crown Range in New Zealand

Mad mike on Crown RangeMad Mike competes in two pro drift spec Mazda cars. All over the globe and every time he is behind the wheel and initiates his high speed drift he still experiences that same rush of adrenaline that keeps him hooked. He recently conquered the Crown Range, New Zealand a road composed of 47 corners, 1076 metres elevation, 10.4km long, one of the most demanding and technical drives of the country. For the first time the mystic road has been closed for only one man, Mike Whiddett. Mike was able to pull sixth gear along the Crown Terrace and winds the Mazda RX7′s 750 horsepower engine out to its redline hitting a max speed of 240km/h on those slippery and tricky mountain roads. A couple of slow motion cameras, some Go Pros, a helicopter and a big filming crew and BAM the greatest ride of all time has been written in history. (The Behind Scene video is linked below as well) Red Bull I salute you for sponsoring such amazing people!

Aston Martin One-77 Joins The Dubai Police Patrol Cars

one-77-police-car SLSBecause a Ferrari FF and a Lamborghini Aventador (for more details click here) weren’t flamboyant enough, the Dubai Police department just invested in a 2 million dollars Aston Martin One-77. This Aston is only available in 77 units worldwide and is powered by a massive 7.3 liters V12 delivering a minimum of 750hp and 750 Nm of torque. A gorgeous piece of Aston Martin’s accomplishment. You would probably think that the Dubai Police Department would be more than satisfied with these 3 supercars, well you are wrong.

bentley police-cars-dubaiThey added to the team a Bentley Continental GT equipped with a 4.0-liter turbocharged V8, 500-hp and 487 lb-ft of torque and a Mercedes SLS armed with a 6.3L V8 engine delivering 563hp/ 479lb-ft of torque. All of those later comers are shown in the video below equipped with a police siren and exposed in the famous Dubai Mall (which happens to be the biggest mall in the world) This whole supercar shopping added up to a total of around 3,5 million dollars worth of Super Police Cars. What do they need them for? NOTHING! These supercars are just used to cruise around in the city center giving a glamorous and rich image to Dubai. Dubai Police Chief said that the public’s “amazing” reaction for the Aventador police car convinced him to add further exotics to the fleet. The Dubai Police department has officially the fastest police cars squad in the world.
